The Peterborough Airport is home to an aviation-related employment park, services for recreational pilots, charter flight businesses and aviation education.
Businesses at the airport directly employ over 500 jobs within the aerospace industry. According to the Airport Master Plan completed in 2022, the airport accounted for over $90 million in gross domestic product to the region. Capable of supporting Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 series aircraft, the airport is positioned to meet the needs of the aviation and aerospace sectors to serve as an economic and social driver for Peterborough and the surrounding region.

Parking and ground transportation
The airport provides both short-term and long-term parking conveniently located next to the terminal building. Long-term parking fees apply after 7 days, with a weekly rate of $35.00 for vehicles parked over one week. Please pay in advance by calling 705-743-6708.

Our history
Take a step back in time and have a look at the timeline to see how YPQ got to where it is today:
- Early 1960s: Harry Oakman acquired land and, with the support of the City of Peterborough, built two turf runways, laying the groundwork for the airport.
- 1965: Bradley Air Service became the first commercial business at Peterborough Airport. This enabled operations including a charter service, flying training school, and aircraft sales, service, and maintenance.
- 1967: The City of Peterborough purchased airport land from Harry Oakman, which now forms part of the current airport.
- September 21, 1969: The Peterborough Municipal Airport officially opened with a 5,000-foot hard surface runway featuring lighting and a small terminal building.
- 1995: The City rehabilitated the runway and taxiway, upgrading the pavement to a PLR of 8.
- 2010: A major expansion commenced, featuring new infrastructure, a new terminal building, runway expansion, and a General Aviation Area.
- 2019: The airport celebrated its 50th Anniversary with an Air Show and Gala dinner.
- 2024: The General Aviation Expansion project continues, further enhancing the airport's capabilities.
