Public Works Mechanic

Join our team as a Public Works Mechanic, where you'll take on a diverse range of maintenance and repair responsibilities. In this role, you will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including cars, buses, dump trucks, tractors, loaders, graders, snow removal equipment, construction machinery, and small engines. Your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient operation of our fleet, supporting essential public works services.

Please Note: The shifts for this position will be afternoons (2 p.m.-12 a.m., Monday to Thursday) or midnights (9 p.m.-7 a.m.).

Qualifications

  • Hold a current Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate (310T)
  • Experience repairing various equipment, including:
    • Buses
    • Heavy-duty trucks and equipment
    • Light-duty vehicles
  • Preferred certifications: Automotive Service Technician or other related.
  • Hold a valid Class G driver’s license (Class D with Z endorsement is an asset)
  • Welding and body repair experience is beneficial.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work collaboratively with others.
  • Capable of completing work forms, preparing simple written reports, and using basic computer applications.
  • Must supply personal hand tools.
  • Available to work all shifts (days, evenings, and weekends)
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position.

Compensation 

Hourly Rate: $42.30

Note: A shift premium will also be applied to eligible shifts. Includes a competitive comprehensive benefit package with 100% Employer paid premium, in addition to a defined benefit Pension Plan through OMERS and a tool allowance of $600 payable each calendar year.
