Equipment and Apparatus
Peterborough Fire Services uses Scott AP75 with 4500 PSI air cylinders for our Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. The equipment features the vibra-alert alarm that activates when the cylinder reaches about 25% of its air supply. It provides about 45 minutes of breathing air. Depending on a firefighter's heavy workload, a firefighter can use a full air supply in as little as 20 minutes. A firefighter can manually activate the built-in Personal Alert Safety System in the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus if they need help.
The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus consists of four components:
- Air cylinder
- Harness
- Regulator and hose
- Mask
The cylinders are made from aluminum and carbon fibre. The equipment weighs about 17 kilograms or 35 pounds.
