Arenas and Skating

The City of Peterborough operates four arenas, with a total of seven ice pads, including the Peterborough Memorial Centre, our community's major sport and events facility.

The City of Peterborough is a great place to host indoor and outdoor events such as farmer's markets, trade shows, weddings, banquets, conferences, celebrations and concerts.

Ice and Floor Rentals

Ice and floor rentals are available at all of the community arenas.

Please note that rental requests received outside of our regular office hours or during holidays will be processed in sequence of requests received upon the office reopening. A completed Request Form is not considered a booking.

The time frames in the tables below will be compulsory when forwarding ice allocation requests to the Facility Booking Office. All dates in the tables below are prior to the beginning of each season.

Rate per pad at Healthy Planet and Kinsmen Civic Centre only: $3,700.75 per day.

Floor Cancellation Fees

  • An Administration Fee of $24.30 (HST included) will be applied for each hour of floor cancelled 30 days or more in advance.
  • An Administration Fee of $46.90 (HST included) will be applied for each hour of floor cancelled less than 30 days and up to 7 days in advance.

Public Skating

Drop in at Miskin Law Community Complex for leisure skating and shinny for all ages. Browse the information below for skating descriptions, skaters code of conduct, fees and more.

  • Family skate: a drop-in recreational skate for parents and guardians with children aged 3 to 13 years. Children must be accompanied on the ice by their parent or guardian at all times and cannot participate alone. Cost: $5.25
  • Public skating: our drop-in recreational skate is for individuals of all ages. Children 10 years and under must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian 16 years or older. Cost: $5.25
  • 50+ adult skate: a drop-in recreational skate for adults 50 years and older. Cost: $4.00
  • Family stick and puck: a drop-in recreational skate for parents and guardians to help children aged 3 to 13 years practice and develop skating, stick handling and passing skills in a non-competitive environment. Children must be accompanied on the ice by their parent or guardian at all times and cannot participate alone. Cost: $5.25
  • Pay-as-you-play shinny hockey: a non-competitive, non-contact, informal drop-in hockey program. We offer 18+ co-ed, 18+ women and 14+ youth. Cost: adults $8.50; youth $7.50

For the enjoyment and safety of all skate participants, please respect the following guidelines. The City of Peterborough reserves the right to refuse service to anyone found in violation of these guidelines.

General:

  • Maximum Capacity 160 skaters per ice pad
  • This is a shared-use facility for public enjoyment
  • Please respect other skaters and your facility
  • Skate in constant flow and in the direction of all the skaters, avoid excessive speed

Supervision:

  • Children 10 years and under must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian 16 years or older

Safety:

  • Do not use the ice until the ice resurfacer is off the ice and the door is closed
  • All persons on the ice must wear skates
  • CSA helmets for kids 6 & under (recommended for all), protective equipment is strongly recommended
  • Protective equipment is strongly recommended

Assistive Devices:

  • Devices must be clean
  • Wheelchairs, sledges and other assistive devices are permitted
  • A sledge is defined as a sled with two skate blades under the seat and a glider extending to the front. The skater uses two sticks with a prick on the end to propel themselves forward.
  • Support persons must wear skates and be skilled skaters

Not Permitted:

  • Boots and shoes on ice
  • Food and drinks
  • Cell phones and electronic devices
  • Animals
  • Horseplay and skating games
  • Carrying children while on the ice
  • Body contact or checking
  • Profanity and abusive language
  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Equipment such as pucks, sticks, strollers, chairs, or pylons

Those who choose not to follow the Public Skating Guideline will be given a warning and then repeated offence, will be asked to leave the facility. 

Family Stick and Puck

  • A CSA-approved helmet with an attached face mask or cage is required for children
  • Hockey nets and pucks are provided.
  • Children must bring their own stick.

Shinny

  • CSA-approved helmets are mandatory and full equipment is required for all players and goalies.
  • Goalies play for free.
  • Equipment rentals are not available.
  • Shinny is not intended for organized teams. Referees are not provided.
  • No body-checking is allowed.
  • Please keep the spirit of the game enjoyable, and remember it is only for fun.
  • This activity is not directly supervised (only youth), report any concerns to staff.
